Who we are

This Privacy Policy explains how HoopsCall (“we”, “us”, “our”), operated by HoopsCall Team, collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you use the Service. We are the controller of your personal data. By using the Service you agree to this Policy. See also our Terms of Service.

1. Data we collect

  • Account data: your email address, username, and password. Your password is handled by our authentication provider and stored in protected (hashed) form; we never see it.
  • Your choices and activity: your favorite team, your predictions (starting five, top performers, favorite players), points earned and spent, purchases of virtual items, games you asked to be notified about, and the state of your notification inbox.
  • Notification data: if you turn on notifications, your browser gives us a push subscription (a device-specific endpoint address and encryption keys). We link it to your account.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser and device type, requested pages, and timestamps. This is processed automatically by our hosting and infrastructure providers (for example in server logs) for operation and security.

2. Cookies and local storage

  • We use only strictly necessary cookies, set by our authentication provider, to keep you signed in.
  • We use your browser local storage for small display settings on your device (for example the colour of your selected team, so that loading screens match it). This stays on your device and is not used for tracking.
  • We do not use analytics or advertising cookies, and we do not track you across other sites. For this reason we do not show a cookie banner. If this changes, we will ask for your consent first and update this Policy.

3. How we use your data and why

  • To provide the Service, manage your account, record your predictions, and calculate points and results (performance of our contract with you).
  • To send notifications you asked for, such as final scores (your consent, which you can withdraw at any time).
  • To keep the Service secure, prevent abuse and fraud, and fix problems (our legitimate interests).
  • To respond to your requests and comply with the law.

We do not sell your personal data and we do not show advertising.

4. Who we share data with

  • Supabase provides our database and authentication and stores your account data and activity.
  • Vercel hosts the Service and processes technical data such as IP addresses.
  • Browser push services (such as those operated by Google, Apple, Microsoft, or Mozilla, depending on your browser) deliver notifications. They receive your subscription endpoint and the notification content.
  • Sports data provider (API-Sports): our servers request game data from them. We do not send them personal data about you. Team logos may be loaded from our own server or from the provider media servers, in which case that server can see your IP address.
  • Authorities, where we are legally required to disclose data, and a future owner of the Service if it is transferred.

5. International transfers

Our providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where required, such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission standard contractual clauses.

6. How long we keep data

  • Account data and activity are kept while your account is active.
  • When you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal data promptly (normally within 30 days). Copies in backups may remain for a limited additional period.
  • Push subscriptions are deleted when you turn off notifications or when they stop working.
  • Server logs are kept by our hosting provider according to its own retention rules.

7. Your rights

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority in the country where you live or work, or where you believe your rights were infringed.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children

The Service is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Third-party content and links

Team names, logos, player names, statistics, and game information shown in the Service belong to their respective owners and are shown for informational purposes only. HoopsCall is an unofficial fan-made project and is not affiliated with the NBA or any team. Links to other websites are outside our control, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. The new version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
